So here is my progress on sewing sections:
I think the best part was removing the paper pieces :) - it made me anxious to stitch more together!
And here are the addtional flowers that I completed:
I am also trying different thimbles. I am having such a hard time getting used to wearing one, but when I was stitching the sections together I actually pushed the needle into my finger so deep it spurted blood....not a good thing!! LOL. So I purchased a few different ones to try and I will let you know how that goes next week. Do you have a favorite thimble? Is it always hard to get used to?
I'm linking up with Jessica at Life Under Quilts for the Monday Morning Start Count. Check it out and join us! The more the merrier!
I agree that taking out the papers is incredibly satisfying! Great progress!
ReplyDeleteIt does take a while to sew sections together, but then that is lots of stitching! It is looking great.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteLovely Project!
ReplyDeleteI haven't gotten used to using a thimble either, but need to as well... your flowers look great!
ReplyDeleteI'm just starting EPP and haven't found "the" thimble for me yet, either...some are as much as $15.00 USD.
ReplyDeleteHigh fives for taking out the paper! :)
ReplyDeleteI do have a favorite thimble! And I'm incredibly cheap, so it says something that I've bought two of them:

I have tried pretty much all of the other options except the one with the coin in it. Metal, plastic, other leather ones, using a finger cap from office supply, thick bandaids....
I second Lisa. The Clover Natural Leather Thimble is the best I don't know how I EPPed without it. It does take a little getting used to but your finger will thank you.
DeleteI have an EZ brand brass thimble that has a ridge around the top. It was only a couple of bucks and I've had it for over a decade. I wear it on my middle finger and I can't imagine sewing anything without it!
ReplyDeleteOh, how pretty! Finding the "right" thimble does take time but when you do, it will be a game-changer. I have an antique one that I've had for so long I don't remember where I found it. I thought I'd lost it the other day at the DMV and I was panicky until I found it. lol When sewing, I often forget I have it on & will then find myself cooking with it. When teaching beginning students, I have them wear their thimbles throughout class & suggest they wear it for a day or so when at home to get used to it. Doesn't take long with one that fits nicely. You could also try the leather fingertip pad. It has a sticky side on the leather pad that sticks to your fingertip so it's not actually covering the whole end of your finger. Might be a good transitional thimble until you find your favourite one. Happy Quilting!
