Monday Morning Star Count 2014/11

Sunday, March 16, 2014
This week I decided to get organized and really figure out the numbers behind my Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt.  Until now, I have been aimlessly basting and stitching, but now it is time to finalize my plan!

First I counted all my unstitched hexies and determined that I have 48 flowers left to stitch.  Check out all the hexie stacks :)  336 hexagons all stacked so nicely!

I have 26 flowers completed waiting for 3 additional border hexies to be stitched and 21 flowers that already have the 3 additional border hexies stitched.  I have stitched four flowers to the main part of the quilt.  The only outstanding effort, is how many border hexagons....guess I have to work on calculating that one!

Total Progress Left To Complete
Flowers to Stitch 99 51 48
Border Hexagons ? 112 ?
Borders to Add 99 25 74
Stitch to Quilt 99 4 95

This week's effort is included in the numbers above.  I was able to finish 3 flowers and basted 27 border hexies.

I also experimented with thimbles (and thanks to everyone who provided me options).  So far I have determined that I have gotten used to two of them - The Clover Protect & Grip and the Clover Natural thimble.  These two are located in the lower left of the picture.

I can't say I am in love with either....but I am trying really hard!!

I am linking up with Jessica at Life Under Quilts.  Come visit and see everyone's progress and you just may want to join us!

    1. Thank you! I love Bonnie & Camille's fabrics. This line is Marmalade. Next time though, I think I am going to make something with all my scraps :) But I do adore each line they release!

  4. That leather one is the front center is mine. I love love love it. I also have the pink one to the right and the next one going counter clockwise- the little green and tan thing. I can't use either of those to save my life.

    1. Thanks Lisa. The leather one in the center is the one I have been using the most. I bought the medium first and it kept spinning on my finger. I purchased a small and that one is better, but it is starting to stretch out now. I took everyone's advice and have been wearing it around the house :) I know I look silly, but I need to get used to it. I can't use either of those silly ones :) either. It is probably good there are so many to choose from. I asked my Mom to look for some of my Grandmother's so I can try them. I hope she finds them!!

  5. I'm a number cruncher at heart, so your chart makes me happy … almost as happy as when I see those darling piles of hexies! Love them!

    1. Adrienne - your post made me smile :) I am so analytical that I like to lay everything out and nice and neatly! And I love Excel for that :) I love seeing the piles of hexies too, but hope I have fewer to count next week!

    1. Thanks Pamela. I like dealing with numbers, but when I got started, I just wanted to see progress :) and actually did not even know what I was going to make since it was my first EPP project. Ha! I just kept stitching and I am pretty sure I will be able to make a quilt for the bed....I am hoping for queen size.

  8. I have tried so many thimbles in my lifetime...including Roxanne's silver one. My favorite is a metal cheapie from the dime store!

    1. Helen - I was just telling my husband....maybe I should try some of the cheaper ones :) I am sure I will get used to one at some point and when I find 'the one' I am going to by a few :)
